Spanish Validation of the Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire and the Acquired Capability for Suicide Scale Among Mexican University Students

Introduction: the rate of death by suicide has increased in Mexico, representing a significant public health problem. To prevent and treat this phenomenon, it is crucial to identify reliable risk factors among Mexicans. The Interpersonal Theory Suicide demonstrated empirical support for role thwarted belongingness, perceived burdensomeness, acquired capability development suicidal desire behaviors. measure theory’s constructs—the Needs Questionnaire (INQ) Acquired Capability Scale (ACSS)—has also shown good psychometric qualities. Objective: translate, culturally adapt validate these instruments. Method: 495 university students from Mexico City participated two independent samples (n = 239; n 256). For INQ, available version Spanish was used. ACSS, most current English Based on results first sample, items were modified, eliminated, or added second sample. Results: INQ fit (RMSEA .054, TLI .97, IFI NFI .95) with an internal consistency .77 .87 belongingness respectively. ACSS obtained similar .011, CFI .99, .91); .77. Discussion conclusions: instruments display properties can be used constructs interpersonal theory suicide. However, further replication needed generalizability other Spanish-speaking populations.
